2015 Comes to an end!

Well another school year has come to an end. This was a very fun year with its ups and downs. In the 2014/15 year HHS added a new teacher in Mr. Stager. Mr. Stager taught mathematics and leadership while Mr. Dashinsky taught 3 classes of math and 3 classes of PE. We also had a new principal that all of the teachers and students loved. Unfortunately she has moved on, part way through the year she had an operation to repair a bone in her foot and in her absence we had Mr. Petrocelli as acting principal.

Also this year HHS was able to field a basketball and soccer team in a newly formed Baldy League. The basketball team was league champions.

Mr. D Connor took over Independent Studies responsibilities and now uccupies room #8.

MR. Gold switched from PE/History to History/Gov.

Mr. R Connor only taught one class of math and five of computer/video.

Ms. Latona added a class that created a monthly newletter.

Mrs. Stephenson broke her hand over Christmas break and had Mr. T.  Cagley take over planning of her class for all but the last two weeks of school.

Mr. Waldowski well he was Mr. Waldowski. He did buy a place in Long Beach.

Bridge Builder

Bridge Builder Instructions

Build a secure bridge that can withstand the weight of the truck as it goes from one side to another. Purchase parts to construct your bridge with your limited money. Once you have constructed the bridge, instruct the truck to drive across it. Keep an eye on the beams as the truck passes; red indicates that a beam is under a lot of stress. Good luck! Use your mouse to build bridges. Click the play button on the upper left side to see if the bridge is stable, if not you can edit it. Turn the go lights on to get the truck moving.

There are approx. 25 levels to this game. Lets see who can get the farthest!

Tricky Drive Instructions

Drag and drop shapes so that the truck can pass through each level. Use dump trucks, bulldozers, helicopters, and other tools to deal with hazards.

Wednesday -

OA - Tell me about you. Who are you? What is YOUR story?

Example:  Mr. Connor  A Teacher story....

Mr. Connor -  I have been teaching for 21 years. I got into teaching kind of by a fluke, or a stroke of luck. I have a degree in Engineering Technology and 21 years ago I had a construction business, and was tangled up in a law suite with HUD. To this day I will profess my innocence but it wiped me out financially. At the same time at Upland JHS, the wood shop teacher Mr. Gabonnay had had a heart attack and had to retire from teaching. The school was unsuccessful finding a replacement, until I entered the equation.  I took a chance and applied for the position. I got the job!
I taught at Upland JHS for 11 years. I taught Wood Shop and a class called Exploring Technology.  I attempted to recreate the wood shop area into a 21 century lab based on the concept that an organization called ITEA (International Technology Education Assosiation) was proposing. I removed the traditional desks and with a budget of just $1,100 spent a few weeks over a summer break and created 16 stations in the classroom and developed lessons to run in each station. Long story short, it was not my teaching style, and part of it the students were not deligent enough to take personally responsibility to self monitor their work rate.  The concept was that the teacher became a more of a facilitator.  I ran the lab about two years this way and made the personal decision to scrap that delivery system.
For my sanity, I selected the 8 best lessons and ran my entire class one station at a time together. It ws the right thing to do for me. 15 years later I still run many of the station concepts at the high school level in my Computer and Math classes.

Thursday:Favorite video online. Please copy video and post on to your blogger page.

W7 iMovie 10.0.8

Week 7 is going to be a bit messy. The english portion of the STAR (There is a new name for the test) is taking place on T & TH this week, along with the CAHSEE Test on T & W. While this is going on we still need to continue learning new stuff....so this week...I would like to revisit iMovie: however, with that said, iMovie has changed. When we last used iMovie we were using the 9.0 something version, we now will jump to the 10.0 version. Some major changes in appearance. Let's hope the Apple designers keep all of the cool stuff, and make it easier? So far the online reviews have not been to good.

The project for this week is to find 10 images online. Theme them if you will. I.E. If you go with Nature stay with beautiful landscaped images, if you go with sports, stay with the sport.
Place the 10 images into "Photos" this replaces iPhoto on the Mac. Once you have placed the images into Photo, open iMovie.

You will be created a 10 image movie. The goal is to learn how to install transitions, titles, music and saving the movie.

Post your video to your Blog page!

Google Drive

Google Drive

This week we will learn a little about Google Drive.  Google Drive is Cloud based, so what does that mean. The cloud is actually a computer center, probably something larger than we can imagine, that allows computers from all over the world to share and store data. What is cool about the cloud is that it is accessible from any Internet based device from any where in the world. Pretty cool.

Day 1 Wednesday:  Today we will create a Google Drive to your Gmail account. Once we have established your Google Drive you will contribute a photo, comment and a link.
Day 2 Thursday:  Today I would like you to contribute to our page entitled " Day 2 Google Drive" I would like you to add a photo, a comment and a link to your input.

Day 3 Friday: Today you will create your own Google Document (doc). This document will be entitled:  "Your name.decade".  I would like for you to pick a decade in time prior to 1970. You can go back as far as you want. On your page I would like you to provide the following information.
1.  Choose the Decade.  Make this your title.
2. How many people were alive during the decade that you selected? Provide a link to where you found your source for information.
3.  List some things that happened during the decade that you chose. Again link to your source(s).
4.  Provide at least one image of someone, or something eventful from the decade of your choice.
5.  Provide an area on your page with the links.  I would like for you to have five links that provide information about the decade that you chose
6.  When complete share your page to the folder entitled " Decade"
7.  Place a link to your Google Drive page on the Decade to your blogger page post inviting people to see your site.
