W7 Computer Friday - Sub Day

Today I would like each student participate in a class web hunt.

The Sub will provide you with a sheet of paper to answer the questions.

I am traveling north this weekend to Humboldt County and will be staying in the city of Loleta. I am attending the graduation ceremonies of my son who is graduating from Humboldt State University. Since I am up north I am basing this web hunt on the Great Northwest. Humboldt is about 100 miles from the Oregon border.

1. View image of where we are staying. Type in Southport Landing, Loleta CA 95551.  Use Google Maps. Use the 'earth' viewer to get a look at it.  What street is this home located on?
Here we are at Southport Landing at the Captains Mansion.

2. History of Southport Landing Home.  Southport. Who is the Wikipedia article about in this
link?
What was he known for?
Which president did he entertain?

3. What year was Humboldt State Founded?   Humboldt

4. Let's travel a bit farther north to the state of Oregon. One feature in Oregon is Crater Lake. How deep is the lake?

5. What is the population of Oregon?  Oregon

4 You are now going to be traveling a bit north to the state of Washington to Mt. Saint Helens. This mountain (volcano) erupted in 1980. Take a look at the 4 min video. What was the name of the old guy who would not leave his home and perished in the eruption?  Mt. Saint Helens. ( You should be able to view video without Hotspot Shield.)

5. Fur Trade is what the Northwest is known for. So what is the significance of the 49 parallel?
Watch the Video. Fur Trade

6. Underground Seattle, Washington.  What happened on  June 6, 1889 at 2:39 in the afternoon that changed Seattle for ever?

There is actually a video that you can view on item 6. Seattle

7. Let's venture farther north to Alaska where in 1964 something big happened?
Watch the video. Alaska 1  or  Alaska2 video.   How big was the event in Magnitude?
