W8. Gimp Text

Monday 3-16  Add Text to 3D images

  1. Open an image in GIMP
  2. Select the “A” on your toolbar. This is the text tool. Then click on your image.
  3. The Editor Dialogue Box will open. You will be able to type into the center of the 4square text object just below the dialogue box. We will call this the text box
  4. Type your text, try changing the Font, Text size, and color.
  5. Move your Text Box to where you want it to show up on your image, if you have not already done so. To move the text, select the 4 arrow array from your toolbox, then click on the text. You now should be able to move your text.
  6. Close out your Dialog Box by selecting Close
  7. Now Merge the layers together. The text is on its own layer and that layer needs to be merged with the photo image. Go to the “Image” pull down and select “Merge Visible Layers”. When you do this a dialog box will open. Click “Merge Layers”.
  8. Export your image and place it on your Blogger page.
  9. Repeat this process on both of the 3D images you did last week.

Week 7 Gimp: 3D

Beginning on Monday 3-9 we will work with Gimp creating a 3D Out of Bounds effect on an image or two.  For the work I would like you to use a Tutorial I found on Youtube by a young lady who goes by SOUL.  Click for link:  3D Out of Bounds

Please note:  I will provide support but you must follow the steps on the Youtube Video and posted here.
See Example Below:

From this photo

To this photo!
Teacher Notes:  Below are the steps of the Tutorial. They may not make sense to you with the tutorial going in the background:

Gimp Out of Bounds affect  3D Effect

Steps:
1  Open image in gimp.
2. Create a new layer by going to “Layer”, ‘new layer’ and set it to transparency.
3. Select the ‘Rectangle Select Tool” and use it to create a frame.
4. Create the border of the frame by going to  ‘select’ ‘border’ and then set the size of the border. In this example the author uses 35 and select OK. I like smaller numbers it all depends on the size of your image.i
5  Select the Bucket Fill tool from the Toolbox and fill the frame with color.
6. Go to ‘select’ ‘none’ to remove the selection and then:
7.  Use the Perspective tool to edit the frame.
8.  Decrease the opacity of the frame and then use the ‘erase tool’ to erase the on top of the person or item you want to be coming out of the frame. You may need to change the size of the eraser to do this. Increase the opacity of the frame back to 100%. Note: You may want to change the eraser and eraser size and the percentage size of the photo for erasure accuracy.
9. When done increase the opacity back to 100%.
10  Now select the layer of the photo and erase the background.
Note: The erased color will be filled with the 2nd selected color, but if you want a transparent background then go to: ‘layer’, transparency’, ‘add alpha channel’ Also note that sometimes the "Layer" dialogue box gets closed to open it go to: Windows, recently closed and open "Histogram" Another option is to got to: "Windows"  'Dockable Dialogues' and select layers.

11.  You are done. Export the image. If the period ends before you are done "Save" your project so you can begin where you left off on the previous day. Title the project '3D'

W6 Projects. GIMP & Intro of Airdrop

This week we continue with GIMP but also introduce the Mac Airdrop and the use of Word with our image that we create.  We will also work a bit on our blogger pages.

Monday/Tuesday: Today I would like for you to take a photo of yourself using Photobooth. Image must be larger than normal. Save image to desktop. Open image in GIMP.
Using your toolbox 'rectangular selection tool' drag diagonally capturing just your eyes.
Save this and then using File pull down menu create a 'new' image. images size will be 1280 pixels wide by approx 350 pixels tall. This will vary based on the size of your photo. Paste your image in this new window. Export image and save as Eye.jpg. Repeat for nose and mouth.

When done we will use the feature "airdrop" on the Macs to exchange the photos of each other.

Once you have some photos of other students, in Word, we will combine the photos to create photos using the different parts of people.

Wednesday:  Take a photo of yourself using Photobooth. Open the image in GIMP. Now find a new photo of Nature in GIMP.  Using the lasso tool select your eyes and place them in to the new image. Using the blend or smudge tool blend the images together;  for example,  blend your eyes into a wave or a cloud.
Thurs/Fri: March 5 & 6.  So over the next two days I am giving you a chance to catch up on any of the work we have done over the past 3 weeks. We have done a lot. Some of you have finished all of the work.  Also over the next two days I would like for you to work on your blogger page. I would like to see a minimum of 8 links of your choice on your page plus two new Gadgets.  It would also be nice if you modified or changed the color or some font on your page.
