Week 8 Jan 12th Quicktime....Screen Recording

Starting today we will become familiar with a product called QuickTime.

QuickTime comes with the Mac software. We are going to use a relatively new feature, or a relatively unadvertised feature of this product. We will use the feature that allows for video screen capture. I have seen many students recently watching video of expert players playing a favorite video game as that player is playing.  The student is able to see the game being played as well as a video of the players playing it. It's pretty cool.   I want to show you how this is done.

Start by going to the following link for quick instructions.

http://www.loopinsight.com/2014/01/08/your-macs-built-in-screen-recorder/

So the first assignment is to become familiar with how to operate QuickTime.

If QuickTime is not on your application menu bar at the bottom of your screen, place it there for quick reference. QuickTime is located in your Application folder. From your applications folder simply drag the icon to the application menu.

Step 3. Hit the red "Record" button to start capturing your screen, you will get a hint to ask whether capture the entire screen or only a portion of the screen.

Step 4. Click "Stop" button once you finish the screen recording. Then you can preview and export the recorded video to save.

Tips: QuickTime Player also allows you to record the audio and movie.

Project #1

I would like for you to record yourself moving your mouse on the computer screen. When done save the file as " Practice QT" and place it on your Blogger page.

Here are the entire steps you will be taking

Quicktime Screen Recording: (Record your mouse movements on your desktop or a portion of your desktop)

  1. Open Quicktime Video Player
  2. Go to “File” pull down menu and select ‘New Screen Recording’.
  3. A Dialogue Box will appear on your screen. This will not show up in your recordings.
  4. To record select the grey/red button on the dialogue box. You will have two options.
Option 1 is to record the entire screen. To begin click the grey/red button on the dialogue box. To stop recording click the black square stop button that has appeared in the menu bar at the top of your screen to the top right.
or option 2 record a portion of the screen. To record a portion of the screen you will drag the mouse diaganely over the section of the screen you want to show. Then click record. To stop recording select select the stop button located in the menu bar top right.
5.  You will be prompted to save your recording.  Give your recording a name and save it so it appears on your desktop so you can find easy.

 Congratulations you did it!
